Job Profile

Swanage and Purbeck Development Trust is a registered Charity dedicated to supporting the local Community through protecting and enhancing local care services and protecting and managing, sustainably, local places and spaces for community use.

We require a Senior Executive reporting directly to the Trustees. The appointed person will lead all aspects of the day-to-day operational management of the Trust’s business affairs, while ensuring that it meets its short to long term targets. 

The duties will include overseeing the management of the Trust’s principal assets. These include the Focus Centre made up of 3 buildings providing Wellbeing signposting and managed offices/surgeries bookable by Community Care organisations, and Herston Village Hall, a Community Centre providing activities for local people. 

 

Duties and Responsibilities

 To include

·       Building Relationships - Developing and maintaining relationships with donors, volunteers, partners, and other stakeholders to build support for the Trust and its objectives.  

·       Fundraising – This is an important part of the duties of the Wellbeing Executive. This includes identifying need for additional funds and choosing the appropriate funding organisation. Developing, interpreting and delivering the Trust’s funding strategy 

·       PR Management – Developing and managing the Trust’s external profile through PR Communication Plans and strategies. Careful management of its “corporate” style and the way it promotes and presents itself externally.

·       Supervision of staff – Supervise employed staff and volunteers providing services to the Trust’s properties. This will include property management, administrative, financial and reception staff. 

·       Managing budgets - Agreeing and managing day to day budgets and financial targets to achieve best value standards while maintaining quality. The continuing sustainability of the properties for the long term will be a key consideration. 

·       Overseeing the Trust’s policies - Ensuring that the Trust’s policies are properly enforced and maintained and taking responsibility for reporting on incidents and near misses to the Trustees. 

·       Overseeing IT systems - The Trust’s admin systems include MS 365 small business platform and its Groop database. Overseeing the management of these. Printing and reprographic systems will be added to these systems for use by hirers and staff. 

·       Management of HR systems – Setting targets and objectives and monitoring the performance of employed staff. When staff leave, updating Job descriptions and advertising the vacant post. Advising the Trustees on the need for additional support from employed of volunteer staff. 

·       Liaison with Wellbeing management teams - Liaising with the Wellbeing Advisory and Operational Teams, Wellbeing Co-ordinators and Community Connectors to share experiences from dealing with local people expressing needs. Identifying gaps in services available in Swanage and recommending inviting new providers to occupy space in the Focus Centre. 

Skills and Qualifications

The successful applicant will have the following skills

·       Able to relate positively with patience and understanding to those working with and for the Trust 

 

·       Able to present clearly and coherently the aims and objectives of the Trust in a way which promotes the vision of the organisation, whilst accurately setting out the specific requirements. 

·       Experience and understanding of how PR can be managed for the benefit of the organisation. Presentational skills in promoting the organisation externally. 

 

·       Able to relate positively and with empathy towards people employed and volunteering, recognising the contribution they make in supporting the community. 

 

·       Well organised with attention to detail to maintain standards of quality 

 

·       Financially aware with a good grasp of setting and maintaining budgets and able to explain variances. Be able to balance commercial considerations with user needs. 

 

·       Risk aware with a full understanding of Health and Safety and Safeguarding and other relevant policies. 

 

·       Good knowledge of IT packages including Word, Excel, Publisher etc. Knowledge of using other office equipment including photocopier, laminator, laptop etc. 

 

·       Good communication skills in being able to achieve the best from staff, while maintaining discipline and making sure that targets are met. 

 

·       Good team worker and able to summarise and express factual information clearly.

Hours

35 hours per week plus occasional overtime
